The Executive Officer is jointly responsible for the hospital’s strategic development as well as the operational management and directly reports to the Board of Directors. In addition, he/she manages the operations of the entire commercial department and the controlling department.
Together with the Director of Nursing and the Managing Director, the Medical Director is part of the hospital’s management team. He/she functions as a link between the medical staff of the clinic, implements guidelines and recommendations for action and represents the medical interests of the entire clinic externally.
The Managing Director can have a background either in medicine or in business administration. The tasks of the hospital’s Managing Director are diverse and comprise all essential economic and structural aspects of the hospital. He/she is responsible for strategy development and ensures the hospital’s operational flexibility and ability to act strategically.
The Director of Nursing is responsible for the hospital’s nursing staff as well as for the organisationally related areas, such as duty in functional units. In addition, he/she ensures that standards of care are met and that the employees receive the necessary further training.
As the leading physician, the Chief Physician is responsible for all other doctors. The tasks of a Chief Physician mainly include personnel management as well as management of the whole hospital. He/she supports senior physicians and prepares residents for their future career in medicine. With regard to diagnoses and therapeutic measures, the Chief Physician makes the final decision.
“Primarius” or “Primararzt” is an Austrian term for “Chief Physician”. As the leading physician, he/she is responsible for all other doctors. The tasks of a Primarius mainly include personnel management as well as management of the whole hospital. He/she supports senior physicians and prepares residents for their future career in medicine. With regard to diagnoses and therapeutic measures, the Primarius makes the final decision.
The IT Department Head holds comprehensive responsibility for innovation and projects, as well as the strategic and operational alignment of the company-wide IT functions, including IT infrastructure, IT systems, research and analytics, IT applications, IT integration, and clinical IT systems. Special attention is given to experience in project and change management, as well as digital transformation, including the meaningful digitization of internal and external processes
The Financial Controlling Department Head supports the management by conducting cost-effectiveness calculations, variance analysis between planned and actual results, ad-hoc analysis, and deriving recommendations for action. The Financial Controlling Department Head coordinates interdisciplinary collaboration with the Revenue Management and Medical Controlling department, the Finance and Accounting department, as well as other business units.

The Purchasing Department Head is responsible for procuring goods and services necessary for the operation of the clinic. This includes the procurement of medical devices and supplies, as well as non-medical goods such as office supplies, cleaning supplies, and food. Their main task is to ensure that the clinic obtains the required goods and services at the best possible price while ensuring quality and availability. The Purchasing Department Head is primarily responsible for procurement, while the pharmacist is responsible for the management and provision of medications.
The Legal Department Head is responsible for overseeing and managing legal affairs. Tasks include ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and advising the executive management on all legal matters. The Legal Department Head ensures that the clinic adheres to the highest ethical standards and minimizes the risk of legal disputes.
The Medical Technology Department Head is responsible for the planning, implementation, and maintenance of medical devices and systems. This includes the selection and evaluation of new devices, monitoring installation and maintenance, and training medical staff on the proper use of the equipment. The Medical Technology Department Head is also responsible for ensuring that all devices comply with applicable laws and regulations and that the safety and effectiveness of the devices is guaranteed. The Medical Technology Department Head works closely with medical staff and other departments to ensure that all medical devices and systems operate safely and effectively. In this role, they are also responsible for managing the budget for the medical technology department and ensuring compliance with all requirements and regulations.
